Avg. Rating:
The Sabal Sp. Tamaulipas has leaves up to three feet wide and long. It also has cream colored flowers and blooms earlier in the spring than the sabal minor. The trunk of the Tamaulipas creeps along the ground. Leaves on the Tamaulipas are thicker in consistency than those of Sabal Minor and they are a nice blue color. Tamaulipas can grow up to six feet and is very cold hardy. Will grow well in zone 7b and warmer. Needs to be in full sun to part shade. A good reference book is Hardy Plams for the Southeast a Guide for Growing Palms Outdoors North of Florida by Tom McClendon, Will Roberds, and Joe LeVert Southeastern Palm Society.
