Juniper is a genus of trees in the Cupressaceae (cypress family), and is the most widely distributed tree in the world, circumboreal across North America, Europe, northern Asia and Japan. There are over 50 recognized species. Junipers vary in size and shape from tall trees, 20-40 m tall, to columnar or low spreading shrubs with long trailing branches. They are evergreen with either needle-like and/or scale-like leaves.
